About Naomi
I became a childbirth professional shortly after my son graced us with his presence. My pregnancy went 16 days past the estimated due date and had a 29 hour labor with no medications. I had my son with the enormous Kaiser OB group and only a hep-lock (the leads to an IV) for any interventions. I made great efforts to be and stay healthy and had a zero-incident, low-risk pregnancy. My son was born strong, alert and with vigor! I was so elated through the "baby-moon" time and more-than-eager to tell anyone and everyone about my experience but my segway into "natural birthing" conversations was a little rough. A good friend saw my passion and joy and suggested that I teach classes so I could talk to people who WANTED to hear what I had to say. Teaching and attending births has been so fulfilling to me.
Since then I have taught over 150 couples through classes and seminars, attended about 50 births and have been a co-Leader with the International Cesarean Awareness Network (ICAN) as well as planned and organized many seminars and events surrounding birthing awareness. I have been trained as a Bradley Method Childbirth Educator by the American Academy of Husband-Coached Childbirth, (AAHCC) as a birth doula through Doulas of North America (DONA) and as a Lactation Educator through the Childbirth and Postpartum Professionals Association (CAPPA). I am continually researching and studying birthing controversies and information to stay up-to-date on scientifically-sound information. I strive to make sure that my students are given every resource to have an amazing birth.
My family is such a source of strength to me - my husband has helped me immensely with this site as well as being a "research fanatic" and is always finding more information and knowledge to expand my own. His support and his own passion that he brings to this work rejuvenates my own and means the world to me.
My son has also been such an inspiration to me and his addition to my world rocked me to the core. I am forever changed and being a mother is the most amazing experience I have ever had and I am very much looking forward to our new little addition in July 2010! Being with couples while their little family grows is truly sacred work and it is an honor to work so closely with all those I have had the privilege to be with.
